A Categorical Variable is a variable that has multiple unique numeric values and has a Variable Type or Categorical or Ordered Categorical. Categorical variables can be created in Q by:
- Selecting Text Variables in the Variables and Questions tab and changing their Variable Type. See How to Automatically Code Text Variables.
- Copying Variables or Questions and setting their Variable Type to Categorical or Ordered Categorical (unless it is already one of these types). See also How To Band Numeric Variables.
- Coding text variables.
