How to Compute Top 2 Box Scores
A "top 2 box" score is the total of the top two categories in a table. For example, in a five-point scale measuring agreement, the top 2 box score is the sum of the proportion to "Somewhat agree" and to "Definitely agree".
There are multiple ways of computing top 2 box scores in Q:
- When viewing a table containing the two categories you wish to combine, select both of them, right-click and select Create NET.
- Dragging one category onto the other.
- Change the Question Type of the Pick One - Multi question to a Pick Any question, checking Count This Value for the top two categories in the Value Attributes.
- Using automation. See Create New Variables - Create New Top 2 Category Variables (That is, Top 2 Boxes) and, more generally, Automatically Merging Categories and Creating NETs.
